About Thailand
The Kingdom of Thailand, historically the Kingdom of Siam, lies on the Southeast Asian peninsula bordered by Burma to the west, Laos and Cambodia to the east, and Malaysia to the south. It is the only nation in the region to avoid colonization by a Western nation. More than 90% of the nation is part of the Buddhist faith, and its cities are dotted with ornate and ancient temples. Thailand is famous for its pristine beaches and has recently become a destination for ecotourism in the nation’s lush forests.
Thai is the most common language spoken, though there are a number or minority languages also present, especially in the various tribes and families that live in the Thailand's mountain regions. Thailand is currently an emerging economy, having a mix modernizing cities and lots of rural areas. One of the main industries in the Thailand is rice production.
